BLACK LIVES MATTER
RESOURCES
We all must do more to radically change the systemic racism, injustice, and hate in this country. There is no space for silence. We must use our voices to hold ourselves and our peers accountable. We must look inward and challenge our own prejudices. We must work every day at becoming more anti-racist. We must donate our money and support black owned businesses. We must lift black voices. We must demand better minority representation in Film, TV, and Theatre. We cannot rest. We cannot become complacent.
Below is a list of resources where you can donate, how to educate yourself and others, and more. Also see below a compilation of entertainment news pertaining to the Black Lives Matter movement and present inequities in Film, TV, and Theatre.

BLACK LIVES MATTER
#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.
BLACK VISIONS COLLECTIVE
Since 2017, Black Visions Collective, has been putting into practice the lessons learned from organizations before us in order to shape a political home for Black people across Minnesota. We aim to center our work in healing and transformative justice principles, intentionally develop our organizations core "DNA" to ensure sustainability, and develop Minnesota’s emerging Black leadership to lead powerful campaigns. By building movements from the ground up with an integrated model, we are creating the conditions for long term success and transformation.
Black Visions Collective envisions a world in which ALL Black Lives Matter. We use the guidance and brilliance of our ancestors as well as the teachings of our own experiences to pursue our commitment to dismantling systems of oppression and violence. We are determined in our pursuit of dignity and equity for all.
CAMPAIGN ZERO
We can live in a world where the police don't kill people by limiting police interventions, improving community interactions, and ensuring accountability. Funds donated to Campaign Zero support the analysis of policing practices across the country, research to identify effective solutions to end police violence, technical assistance to organizers leading police accountability campaigns and the development of model legislation and advocacy to end police violence nationwide.
COLOR OF CHANGE
Color Of Change is the nation’s largest online racial justice organization. We help people respond effectively to injustice in the world around us. As a national online force driven by 1.7 million members, we move decision-makers in corporations and government to create a more human and less hostile world for Black people in America.
NAACP
The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.
NAACP LEGAL DEFENCE FUND
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. LDF also defends the gains and protections won over the past 75 years of civil rights struggle and works to improve the quality and diversity of judicial and executive appointments. LDF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
NATIONAL BAIL FUND NETWORK
The National Bail Fund Network is made up of over sixty community bail and bond funds across the country. We regularly update this listing of community bail funds that are freeing people by paying bail/bond and are also fighting to abolish the money bail system and pretrial detention.
NATIONAL POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT
National Police Accountability Project (NPAP) is a 501(c)(3) organization and a project of the National Lawyers Guild, which was founded in 1937 as the first racially integrated national bar association. In 1999, NPAP was created as a non-profit to protect the human and civil rights of individuals in their encounters with law enforcement and detention facility personnel. The central mission of NPAP is to promote the accountability of law enforcement officers and their employers for violations of the Constitution and the laws of the United States.
RECLAIM THE BLOCK
By donating, you will support Reclaim the Block's work to make sure that our communities have the resources they need to thrive. Our grassroots group is up against the deep pockets of the Minneapolis police union, and we need your support. The crises facing our city, like housing shortages, addiction, and violence in our communities, need real investment. Reclaim the Block is calling on our city to invest in violence prevention, housing, resources for youth, emergency mental health response teams, and solutions to the opioid crisis - not more police. We have no option but to start now.

BLACK TABLE ARTS
WE ORGANIZE BLACK ARTISTS BUILDING COMMUNITY POWER. WE EDUCATE OUR COMMUNITIES. WE CREATE SPACES FOR LEADERSHIP TO THRIVE.
BLACK THEATRE MATTERS
Black Theatre Matters is a program of Plowshares Theatre Company. Black Theatre Matters covers trending topics in the theatre featuring experts across art form. It is designed to be a liberal arts resource dedicated to supporting, documenting and celebrating the achievements of Black theatre artists throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
COMMUNITIES UNITED FOR POLICE REFORM
Discriminatory and abusive policing in New York City remains a serious problem after decades of out-of-control policies and practices that are unaccountable to residents of the city. In 1994, Mayor Rudy Giuliani and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton adopted policing strategies based on the unproven and controversial broken windows theory, an ideologically-driven philosophy arising from a fellow of the conservative Manhattan Institute. New York City needs an approach to public safety that is based on respect for and holistic investment in communities, not on police targeting and harassment.
LESSON PLAN ON BEING AN ALLY
Choose how much time you have each day (10 mins, 20 mins, 30 mins) to become more informed as step one to becoming an active ally to the black community. On this document are links to the learning resources and a schedule of what to do each day.
THE MARSHALL PROJECT
The Marshall Project is a nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization that seeks to create and sustain a sense of national urgency about the U.S. criminal justice system. We achieve this through award-winning journalism, partnerships with other news outlets and public forums. In all of our work we strive to educate and enlarge the audience of people who care about the state of criminal justice.
