DGA Reaches Agreement - WGA Strike Week 5 - A.I. Integration
By Abigail Hardin, June 06, 2023
Happy Pride Month, UTD! ðŸ³ï¸â€ðŸŒˆ
There is a lot of news to cover this week, with the WGA strike now in week five. On a positive note, the DGA has reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP so it looks like a Directors Guild strike has been averted. SAG-AFTRA says this does not change their approach to negotiations with Hollywood producers.
Last week Annie and I hosted a workshop on the WGA strike. We talked about how you can positively use this time to further your acting career. We answered a lot of questions and some of it bears repeating. Here are some tips on how to navigate this WGA strike time.
- As we learned during the Pandemic pause, the entertainment industry never sleeps. Even though numbers are greatly reduced, productions are still shooting and negotiation talks about the Fall season are active.
- Use this golden time to get your marketing tools in top shape so that you are ready for an explosive return to work Fall season.
- Start an agent campaign for new representation. Agents have more time now to interview new talent.
- Do your research and update your targeted list of TV shows for your market. Know what's returning and what new show opportunities are projected for the Fall season. Make sure that you watch episodes in the shows that you are a perfect fit for.
- Meet casting directors from your targeted show list. They also have more time to meet new talent.
- SAG-AFTRA theatrical contract expires June 30. SAG-AFTRA membership has voted to authorize a strike if an acceptable contract is not reached by June 30. One of the key issues is creating guidelines for self-tape auditions that support actors.
Keep your momentum high during this entertainment redirect. It's not the time to wait for the strike to be over. It's your time to strike while you have golden time to get ready to take advantage of abundant opportunities.
Keep soaring! 🦋
