SAG-AFTRA Negotiations Resume - Fighting Antisemitism in Hollywood - Streaming Price Hikes
By Abigail Hardin, October 24, 2023
Happy Tuesday, UTD!
A lot has happened in the two weeks since our last Industry Insight email. On Wednesday, October 11th, the AMPTP suspended negotiations with SAG-AFTRA. The last two weeks have been a PR battle over framing the narrative of this continued delay in resolution. Thankfully, talks have resumed today and both sides are optimistic a deal could be around the corner. It will not be overnight, but there are hopes for a favorable outcome in the near future.
While production has not been able to fully resume, we are noticing an uptick in project announcements since the WGA ratified their new contract with the AMPTP. New Films and TV series are being announced with writers and showrunners attached to the projects. If you have been hibernating during the strike hiatus, now is the time to wake back up and plug back in. Get in the habit of researching and learning about new projects. These will be some of the first to hit the production line when the strike is over.
The Up-To-Date Actor makes it easy to discover new projects that fit with your unique skills and demographics. Active users receive daily, or weekly, notifications of new projects and audition opportunities. We strive to empower you to do your homework, be prepared, and take BOLD action to move your career forward!
To help you navigate this time and be as prepared as possible when the strike is resolved, Annie and I will be holding a free workshop with Actors Connection, tomorrow, 10/25 @ 3 pm ET. We hope you can join us as we discuss Seeking Representation on Both Coasts. In this workshop, we will explore the similarities and differences between both coasts, the first steps in starting a new representation campaign, the interview, and the collaboration. We hope you can join us! More information and registration via the link below.
