WGA Strike Over! - SAG-AFTRA setting up meetings - Full details & analysis
By Abigail Hardin, September 27, 2023
Happy Fall Season, UTD!
📣 The WGA strike is over!!! 📣 This is great news for our industry and production. The WGA managed to reach a landmark agreement with the AMPTP. Huge gains were made in all areas of membership including AI, streaming residuals, staffing minimums, and more. The deal points will serve as a jumping off point and will help SAG-AFTRA when they resume negotiations with the AMPTP (hopefully next week 🤞).
Yesterday, leaders voted to recommend the tentative agreement for ratification by union members. Ratification is fully expected by October 9th. While the agreement is not ratified yet, as of 12:01 a.m. today, the strike order has been lifted and writers can resume working.
Read more below for full details on the new contract and the implications of the deal for SAG-AFTRA contract negotiations, production schedules, and the industry at large.
The sun is finally shining both literally, here on the East Coast, and figuratively with this new deal! We have been encouraging you during both strikes to not be inactive during this time. There could be as little as 2-3 weeks before SAG-AFTRA reaches a deal. Use these next few weeks to make sure you are ready for a fast paced audition and production season. Producers are looking to make up for lost time as quickly as possible. Don't be left in the dust.
